ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Colonial Village:

  • Dog Biscit - Band:  9am – 4pm. Music and dance all day at the Colonial Village. Take a seat on the straw bales or swing your partner round and round.
  • Blacksmith:  Dave will be giving demonstrations during the day  (watch out at 9.30 when Moondyne Joe steals a bridle)
  • Newcastle General Store:  See Helen, and go down memory lane checking out items sold in years gone by…maybe grab a souvenir telegram
  • Swaggies Inn:  Meet Dave and the other swaggies and have a taste of the stew, damper and billy tea
  • Blade Shearer: Ron the Newcastle squatter shearing his sheep near the swaggies (keep your eye on those jumbucks…don’t let the swaggy place it in his tucker bag)
  • Newcastle Court Room: Great fun for families…bring your kids in and spend 10 minutes reenacting a trial from 1860
  • Bush Poets:  Listen to the bush ballads and poems narrating a story from the times

Roaming the main street:  Town Crier (providing information of the events); Sherlock Holmes Society of WA; Moondyne Joe and his gang, floozies, coppers, swaggies, temperance ladies, the lord mayor and mayoress of Newcastle (Toodyay), organ grinder, piano accordionist, stilt walkers; escaped convict; bushranger and much more

In and near the main street:  Humpy Camel (library); Arts Toodyay Exhibition (CWA Hall); vintage & classics car display (East end); Lions wiggly work (starts Bendigo Bank); Antique & Collectors Fair (Memorial Hall); Historical Cycle Club (old Fire Station); Clydesdale horse and cart (near Newcastle Bridge); Street Portrait Artist (Newsagency verandah); Toodyay Historical Society display; a scarecrow display, buskers, plus Toodyay Scouts leading the billy cart and egg & spoon races

In and near St Stephens Church Grounds:  Progressive Axemens Association (Log chopping demonstrations and competition 10.30 to 3pm; St Stephens Anglican Church Service 10am; Family Respite Centre (in the Church hall), plus stalls, food and drinks

In Duidgee Park: Free Style Now Skate demonstration and competition (join in or watch the fun, all day from 9.30am); ride the Pop-up Ponies, take a journey on Toodyay’s famous miniature railway, use the playground equipment, take a break, perhaps have a BBQ

In Stirling Park:  West Coast Carnivals   

Information Booth & Assistance:  The Moondyne information booth is next to the Newcastle General Store at the Colonial Village.  Come and see us. (You can also see Helen in the General Store for info, or for any info out on the street see the Town Crier and the friendly Moondyne Actor / Volunteers)
